What’s the first thing you do every morning?
For me, I wake up, stumble to the kitchen and start a pot of coffee. I’m a coffee-a-holic. I must have it in order to function.
Otherwise, I appear as you’d imagine a zombie might. If you love your coffee as much as I do, you might be pleased to know coffee (in modest amounts) can be good for your health.
Are you curious about the health benefits of coffee and therefore, willing to encourage your coffee habit? Then I’m going to share with you how beneficial coffee can be for your health.
Here’s what you should know about the health benefits of coffee:
1. Aids in Burning Fat
Let’s come right out of the gate with one of the biggest perks of enjoying your morning coffee. The caffeine in the coffee can help you to burn fat.
It boosts your metabolism, which helps with burning fat, by something as simple as enjoying your morning cup of Joe.
2. Fiber Boost
We all must have fiber in our diet. If your body is lacking fiber, it will quickly let you know. Therefore, if you’re having trouble in the bathroom, try indulging in a cup of coffee.
Coffee contains small amounts of fiber, but if you drink more than one cup per day, it begins to add up. It’s a painless way to get the fiber your body needs in your diet on a daily basis.
3. Fights Gout
I haven’t had gout, and I hope I don’t ever. From what I hear, it can be a painful experience. But if you’re someone who suffers from gout, coffee could be your new best friend.
Coffee is filled with antioxidants which helps reduce inflammation and alleviate pain in gout. Reach for the coffee pot next time you have a flare-up.
4. May Lower Depression and Reduce Risk of Suicide
Depression is something everyone experience from time to time. I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t become depressed at some point in their life.
Unfortunately, suicide is something which is affecting many families as well. Research is showing coffee can help reduce depression and in turn, lower the risk of suicide too.
5. Coffee Battles Parkinson’s Disease
We have Parkinson’s disease in my family. It’s a devastating disease to see affect those you love, but the good news is research is making progress.
There is research showing coffee can help battle Parkinson’s disease. Science is showing if you drink two to four cups of coffee a day, it can lessen the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
6. Good for Your Liver
Have you ever had too much to drink? Do you ever wonder after you sober up exactly how much damage you do to your liver when you consume too much alcohol?
Well, if you’re concerned about the health of your liver, consider drinking more coffee. It produces a chemical through digestion which can slow scar tissue. This can protect your liver from cirrhosis and liver cancer.
7. Stops the Ache
My family and I have been working on a large project around our home lately. I didn’t realize how much I’ve slowed down on physical activity over the past couple of months until I took on this project.
The muscles in my body were sore for days, but do you know when you overdo it physically, you can drink a couple of cups of coffee, and it can help reduce the pain? Give it a try the next time you hit it too hard at the gym.
8. Keeps Your DNA Strong
There are times in our body when our DNA will spontaneously break apart. This doesn’t usually cause a huge amount of problems, but there are times it can.
If you're concerned about the strength of your DNA, drink more coffee. Scientists see DNA which is less likely to break apart spontaneously in coffee drinkers.
9. Reduces Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease
Some people don’t have many health issues in their family tree. I’m not one of those people.
We have Alzheimer’s in my family as well, and it’s a sad disease, and can be scary when you know you have an increased chance of developing it. Coffee is thought to reduce chances of Alzheimer’s because the coffee bean has enzymes which stop the plaque build-up on your brain.
10. Lessens Risk of Developing MS
Multiple sclerosis is a difficult disease to take on. One of my friend’s daughters struggles with it. If you’re concerned about developing this disease, scientists are finding coffee can help ward it off.
Coffee can lessen inflammation in every area of your body. By drinking more coffee, you can stop inflammation in your neurological system which can decrease your risk of developing MS.
11. Lowers Risk of Colon Cancer
Do you have colon cancer in your family? Are you concerned you may develop it later on in life? Don’t stress anymore. You can’t 100% rid yourself of those risks, but you can take steps to reduce your risk.
One way is to drink more coffee. It has plenty of nutrients and antioxidants which are leading scientists to have confidence it can ward off certain types of cancers.
12. Lowers Chance of Type 2 Diabetes
I’m not sure if you’ve figured this out yet, but it seems there are more of us than not who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes at some point in our life.
It seems the percentages grow a little more every time I check. Therefore, if drinking coffee can help you lower your chances of developing, why not?
13. Coffee is High in Nutrients
We may not consider coffee to be a foot high in nutrition, but it is. Many people are taking in more nutrients than they even realized.
Coffee contains vitamin B2, B5, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and B3. These are nutrients your body needs, and now you can consume them in a more relaxed form than popping loads of vitamins.
14. Lowers Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke
There was a time when people were concerned coffee would lead to a heart attack or stroke. Science is now showing something totally different.
In fact, scientists are now saying coffee can reduce your risk of having a heart attack or a stroke. Your morning cup of coffee could be doing more for your health than you realized.
15. Contains Antioxidants
I was stunned when I read somewhere coffee could potentially be one of the healthiest foods in the American diet.
The reason for this statement was because of the amount of antioxidants coffee contains which are great for our body. We love our coffee, and now we may be justified in enjoying it as much as we do.
16. Boosts Energy and Lessens Tiredness
This last health benefit of coffee may be a no-brainer, but it must be included.
Coffee has caffeine, nutrients, and antioxidants which can increase your energy. By boosting your energy, it reduces how tired you feel and can be better for your overall health.
If you were looking for a reason to keep coffee in your daily routine, you now have 16. Coffee can be good for you when enjoyed in moderation.
But remember, if you have concerns about how coffee may impact you and your health, or how much could help for your particular situation, consult with a physician.
Now, when you wake up in the morning and shuffle to the coffee pot, you can smile and know you’re starting your day on the right foot and giving your body the boost it needs to take on the tasks ahead.
